October 2019

Updated: Oct 7, 2019

October is here, the days are getting shorter and the leaves are changing colours. That means Coho salmon are entering the river system. Coho salmon, also known as Silver, are acrobatic so they love to jump and roll. The Coho can be anywhere from 3 to 12 lbs. We’ll also start seeing the Chum salmon entering the river this time of year. Commonly referred to as Dog salmon, these fish will put your reels and arms to the test and average about 10 to 20 lbs. These salmon will be entering the river from October to mid November.

The lake fishing around Whistler has been productive and with winter around the corner the trout are starting to feed on bigger fly patterns to fatten up for the winter. Trout fishing on the rivers in the Sea to Sky has been good using egg patterns and sink tips. This is the time of year we start to see larger trout and bull trout enter the river system.
